El Paso housing news
Local stories from my recent market notes, with a link to each full story.
- City Council incumbent Ivan Niño and challenger Richard Genera differ on taxes, Meta data center, city spending
Ivan Niño and Richard Genera, running for District 5 on the Far Eastside, both point to traffic and property taxes. Niño wants a first-time buyer assistance program. Genera would start each budget from a no-new-revenue plan.
El Paso Matters
- Socorro, Ysleta school districts hold tax rate elections to boost revenue
Socorro and Ysleta ISD voters decide Nov. 3 on raising district tax rates above the state limit. Homeowners whose homestead exemption tops their taxable value would see little or no change. Bills mail after the vote.
El Paso Matters
- EPISD adopts new tax rate, but more than 20,000 homeowners will pay nothing
The district's newly adopted rate raises the bill on an average home, while more than 20,000 owner occupied homes owe no school tax at all because their exemptions cover the full taxable value.

- UTEP, EPCC enrollment grows; county breaks ground on $27 million medical examiner facility
The city may redirect HOME dollars from first time buyer assistance into affordable rental development, with written public comment open. Also inside: enrollment gains and a $27 million medical examiner facility groundbreaking.
